Kadina Show report
This year saw many changes to the Kadina show. The showjumping in 2010 was run by the Kulpara Showjumping Club (formerly the Arthurton Showjumping Club). A brand new surface was laid earlier this year and seeded to make it one of the best jumping grounds in the state. The jumps were generously supplied by Southern Sport Horses and were the same set used at the Arthurton Showjumping Classic earlier in the year. These jumps are specifically designed to be safe for the horse and rider and minimise any injury to either. They are the only jump wings in Australia where the cups fit straight into the square tubing, making a neater appearance and less weight when moving them around.
With all of these changes and most of the states main riders and best up and comers it was set for a great weekend of jumping.
Friday was a training day in the second ring starting with cross rails and going through to 1mt for the more inexperienced horses and riders.
Saturday saw many fiercely fought jump offs with Ella Fairweather and Michelangelo winning the 90cm, Annalise Robinson winning the Anthony Thomas Signature Range Under 21 series on Classic Oman, Alannah Johnson and Mellon Collie taking out the Senior D grade. Anthony Thomas won the other three senior classes, the D&C on Koyuna Warlock, the 120cm One Round Stakes on Classic Oman and the 130cm on the impressive Incrediboy.
Saturday night saw all of the competitors go down to the Royal Exchange Hotel for dinner. The Royal Exchange are great supporters of the showjumping at Kadina with all winners of classes in Saturday given meal vouchers for dinner on Saturday night and it was great to see the very large dining room booked out.
Sunday was another nice day with no breeze and the sun shining. The first event of the day was the Mitavite Junior Series, which was a speedy jump off round and a win to Ashley Rigney and Laudimus and second to Sasha Rosie and Little White Dove. Anthony Thomas opened up his Sunday account by winning the D&C with the impressive young horse Koyuna Warlock. In the B&C Anthony took blue again, this time with Incrediboy with second to Kate Schlichting riding the Souvenir bred Oliver’s Puzzle who looks to have a huge future in showjumping.
The main event of the day was the Yorke Peninsula Showjumping Classic. It was a fairly testing course with some difficult lines. Five horses went into the second round with clear rounds and one on four faults. The two double clear rounds were Anthony Thomas and Incrediboy and Randal Jolley with Faultline. Faultline was first to go jumping a very fast four fault round in 41 seconds. Incrediboy jumped an even faster round and clear to take out the win. Third went to Michael McClean on another very impressive young horse Mysterious Ways.
The Yorke Peninsula Junior Classic saw a large field of juniors jumping the same course as the seniors but lowered. The only clear round in the first was Octavious ridden by Annabelle Fairweather. Unfortunately she dropped a rail in the second round to force a jump off with two other four faulters, Reece Boylan and Robbie’s Gunn’s and Annalise Robinson with Classic Oman. Robbie’s Gunn’s was first to go with a scorching round. Classic Oman also jumped clear but not quite as quick. Octavious lowered a rail to take third place.
It was a good weekend of showjumping, which made a great spectacle for anyone watching. With the great surface and equipment it will become even bigger and better next year.
